Color Splash Party 2020: Something to Celebrate.

June 16, 2020
  • That’s a Wrap!

Now that it’s over we can say that Explore Children’s Museum’s first annual Color Splash Party was an overwhelming success! Phew! I’m not gonna lie, the journey that led us to the super fun parties last Friday was a bumpy one. When we had to cancel our previously planned spring fundraiser, KidsFest, due to Covid-19 concerns we were a bit baffled about what to do. Should we cancel and not do anything in its place? Nooooo! As parents ourselves we knew that families were yearning for safe things to do together, fun things, things to take their mind off of all the changes we have faced in the last few months.

    But what?!?!

The question we faced was if we can’t bring people together for a fun filled day, how can we bring the fun to people instead? Our team went back and forth with a few different ideas that didn’t work out for one reason or another. Also we knew it had to happen before summer officially started so … with only two and a half weeks until the last day of school we came up with the Color Splash Party – you know, a totally out of the box, new and different idea that had no existing model of how to pull it off. No biggie right? Wrong. But that’s where we found ourselves, so we did what we had to do and made it happen. That’s right, from idea to party day was less than 20 days. So yeah, you can see why we can now exhale and celebrate this success.

    Kids are fun.

We can say that the Color Splash Party was a success because we came together as a community, as a group of people with a common goal. Our common goal was to celebrate kids – all they’ve had to deal with during the last few months and their successes over the last school year. How did we do that? We had some fun. Kid kind of fun. We got messy, we threw things, we played with bubbles and we danced to music. We were loud, we laughed and we ran around. Kids definitely know how to have a good time. The team at Explore facilitated the fun, but your kids brought the joy and truly made the Color Splash party the success that it was.

    Thank YOU.

This is going to sound strange but stay with me … sometimes I feel like we are Monsters Inc. Of course AFTER they discovered that they get more energy from children’s laughter than from their screams. Weird? Yeah maybe. But in all seriousness, the laughter and smiles you all brought to the Color Splash Parties gave us energy; put adorable faces to the reasons why we are working on this huge project of building a children’s museum from scratch and gave us a push to keep chasing this dream. Thank you. Thank you for taking the chance on an event that is new. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for supporting an organization that is just starting out. Thank you for sharing in the dream of bringing a children’s museum to our community. We’ve got some hard working people on our team at Explore, but we can’t do this without you so we are truly thankful for YOU.

    Speaking of YOU …

We asked Color Splash Party participants to tell us their takeaways from the event. So in case you don’t believe me when I say we had a good time, here is some feedback from some Color Splashers (can we call participants that? I know it’s not a word, but is it catchy? Or is it totally lame??):

Our family had a great time – it was such a fun way to celebrate the last day of school, too! – Susan B.

We had a blast!  My kids weren’t really sure what to expect but it was a really, unique fun event…everyone I talked to loved it.  I really hope you can have another one. – Andy S.

My family and I had a ton of fun! I couldn’t stop talking about how cool it was. Totally blew my expectations out of the water! I also enjoyed seeing big smiles on all the kids and parents faces!! Can’t wait to do it again next year. – Amber J.

The color splash party put on by the emerging Explore Children’s Museum was the perfect way to safely come together and celebrate the end of the school year. Kids had so much fun dancing, laughing and running through bubbles to get each other colorfully messy with the awesome color rockets delivered by the Explore team. I love knowing with all our fun, I was helping to support the efforts to make a children’s museum coming to Sun Prairie a reality.  I hope Explore always throws an end of the school year color splash party! – Candice H.

We had so much fun at the Color Splash Party! We’re hoping this becomes an annual event. Thanks for brightening our summer!! – Jenni E.

It was an absolute blast. The smiles on my Grandson’s faces, were worth a million dollars. They couldn’t stop talking about how much fun they had. Thank you all so very much. – Peggy M.

Thanks a ton to the organizers for arranging this wonderful event. We could also see the friendliness of all the people which brings diversity. I think this event should be there every summer 🙂 My kids enjoyed it so much that they want to play with Colors again. It was a fantastic idea!! – Misha A.

I think you should do these throughout the summer! What a great way to raise money and get people out!! Love it. – Andrea C.

I really hope this is a yearly event to celebrate the end of the year! We really enjoyed it and look forward to next year’s event! – Amanda K.

    Until Next Time

Big breath out. We are happy. We are energized. We feel connected. We don’t have a lot of time to bask in our success because we have LOTS of other things going on like the Art in the City bench campaign, the Community Mural: Shine On, Yoga in the Park to name a few, but it does feel good to look forward knowing we have you standing behind us.
